Many different factors play a pivotal role in deciding his ill-fated future. With his wife ´s cajoling, and the three witches ´ foretelling of his future, Macbeth, will stop at nothing to gain position as King of Scotland. It could be said that Lady Macbeth is responsible. She bullies him, emotionally blackmails him and knows he is morally sensitive so he must be pushed. She mocks his bravery and knows he is a warrior and will be insulted. Sewers and drains were improved, fresh water supplies were provided and Medical Officers and sanitary inspectors were appointed. The only power they have over Macbeth is their ability to reinforce an idea that was already in his head. Their role is made clear when Hecate speaks to them, ? So much of what is called control depends on the person that is being controlled. The promise of a throne may send some people to their knees while others will take to their heels.
